Benefits open enrollment set for May 5-21

Open enrollment for employee benefits will take place between April 30 and May 11.

During that period, all employees who qualify for benefits must log-on to iVisions to re-enroll. Selected options will take effect on July 1. Employees are encouraged to attend an open enrollment presentation for a review of current plans. To see a full schedule of presentation times, dates, and locations and other open enrollment information, click here.  Additional information about our benefit package can also be viewed through the Employee Benefits Website.

You'll know what we did last summer

Summer vacation is closer than you think, and in a effort to get ready for summer the GESD Maintenance Department is asking a favor of all teachers: tell us what needs to be fixed.

Every teacher is being asked to fill out a Maintenance CheckList before leaving for the summer. The items on that list will be used to build a work schedule for this summer. Completed check lists should be handed in to your school’s administration, who will deliver it to the maintenance department. The goal is to complete as many repairs as possible before teachers return to work in July.

No, it's not your imagination

Sometimes long breaks result in damaged campuses.

But not this year. Not in this District.

Over both Winter and Spring breaks, GESD Risk Manager Rod Petricek reported that the District did not have any occurrences of vandalism.

According to Superintendent Joe Quintana, kudos are due to the entire administrative team, teachers and other employees for shifting the culture as it relates to student discipline and how we view and serve our students.

“Although I firmly believe in what we are doing in the area of culture and climate, I was a bit conservative in my optimism when we did not have any vandalism during the winter break,” Quintana said. “Although in my heart, I chose to believe there is a direct correlation, I chose to be tempered in my enthusiasm. Now that we had similar results during the spring break, this is definitely not an accident or good luck.  This a direct result of the great work you and your teams are doing at the school sites with the students we serve.  Thank you for the time and effort you continue to devote to this area.”

District hires new 403(b)/457(b) administrator

The Glendale Elementary School District is pleased to announce that the District has secured the TSA Consulting Group, Inc. (TSACG) as an administrator for 403(b) and 457(b) retirement plans.

The District made this important change to allow employees additional options for provider plans as well as having a dedicated administrator to assist with faster transaction processing and also to ensure Federal and State compliance requirements are met.

In addition to the retirement plan options currently offered through the District, we have added several plans that were deselected in 2008. (See list here). We are very pleased to have TSA Consulting as a partner, and as a District we are committed to providing employees with exceptional service and competitive options for supplemental retirement plans.  You can find out more about TSAC here.

Busy, busy, busy . . .

Students and staff at Horizon commemorated World Autism Awareness Day by forming a puzzle piece on the school's basketball courts. Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys, and is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
This has been a month chock full of events where students got to show off what they’ve learned. In just the last few weeks GESD has held its annual Art Show, Honor Band Concert, and Choral Festival. In between there’s been PE Night, a chess tournament and a track meet. You can keep up by friending us on Facebook, and if you want to see more, check out our Flickr stream.
