Flu season has arrived; get your flu shot

There may be no group more susceptible to catching the flu bug than school employees, which is why you should take advantage of two opportunities the District is offering to get your flu shot.

The first opportunity is at Wednesday’s Employee Network Road Show, 2 p.m — 5 p.m. in the gym at Landmark. The shots are free for employees with GESD insurance. Employees should bring proof of insurance. All others wishing a flu shot can get one for $14.99. Payments in cash, American Express Card or debit card will be accepted.

The second opportunity will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office. Walgreens will provide the shots at their regular cost. This opportunity is also open to the public.

Lee Denim Day is just around the corner

If you haven’t signed up for Lee Denim Day there’s still time before Oct. 3, and now you can give online.

For $5 (or a more generous donation if you wish) you can wear jeans on Oct. 3, and as an extra incentive to students we also ask that you wear a shirt or T-shirt from the college you attended on that day.

Last year District employees raised more than $3,600 on Lee Denim Day, and had its highest participation rate since GESD began to take part in the national program six years ago. All money raised on Lee Denim Day goes to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

In addition to the wearing jeans, the District is looking to Paint It Pink, where you decorate your classroom, work area or person to honor breast cancer survivors throughout October. A team of judges will be around to see your work, and a trophy will be awarded for the office or classroom that best Paints It Pink.

For more information, contact the Lee Denim Day Coordinator at your site.
